About the Role
As the Maintenance & Service Manager at bound4blue, you will be responsible for defining and executing the maintenance and service strategy for the eSails installed at customer sites worldwide. This role reports directly to the Chief Operations Officer (COO) and will work closely with teams across Product, Sales, and Finance, ensuring the development of a comprehensive maintenance strategy while exploring ways to monetize these services.
In addition to leading a small in-house maintenance team (including an electrical and mechanical technician), you will be tasked with building and managing a global network of service providers to ensure the ongoing maintenance and support of our eSails.
Key Responsibilities

Maintenance Strategy Development:
Define and implement a global maintenance strategy that ensures operational efficiency, reliability, and customer satisfaction for all eSails installations. -
Team Leadership:
Lead a small team of in-house technicians, ensuring proper support, skill development, and high-performance standards. Oversee daily maintenance activities and provide guidance to maintain quality and consistency in all tasks. -
Global Service Network Management:
Build and coordinate a network of global service providers capable of performing maintenance on eSails at customer locations. Foster strong relationships with service providers to ensure they meet company quality standards and compliance requirements. -
Monetization Strategy:
Work with the Finance and Sales teams to explore potential revenue-generating models for maintenance services, such as subscription-based services, service packages, and performance guarantees. -
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Collaborate closely with the Product, Sales, and Finance teams to align maintenance strategies with product development, customer needs, and business goals. Ensure the strategy supports both operational needs and revenue growth, enhancing the overall customer experience. -
Performance Tracking and Reporting:
Monitor and report on maintenance performance, including uptime, service quality, and customer satisfaction. Regularly report progress, metrics, and performance to the COO. -
Customer Satisfaction:
Oversee all documentation and procedures associated with repairs, inspections, and maintenance related to eSails. Ensure that maintenance activities are conducted in a way that is safe, efficient, ergonomically viable, and of the highest quality. Actively participate in designing maintenance solutions based on industry best practices and leverage your experience from other sectors to drive improvements. Serve as the visible point of contact for customers, ensuring prompt and effective resolution of any maintenance issues raised, while maintaining a high level of satisfaction with both the product and service provided. -
Continuous Improvement:
Identify and implement process improvements that enhance operational efficiency, reduce costs, and increase the effectiveness of maintenance and service operations. Continuously evaluate and optimize maintenance workflows to improve service delivery. -
Compliance and Safety:
Ensure all maintenance activities comply with legal regulations, safety standards, and company policies. Promote a culture of safety and regulatory compliance across all maintenance and service operations.
Required Competencies
- Degree: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Naval Architecture, Business, Operations Management, or a related field.
- Experience: 7+ years of experience in naval maintenance or service management, with a focus on high-tech maritime equipment or marine technology. Experience in the naval industry, particularly in the maintenance of advanced systems, is essential.
- Leadership: Proven leadership skills with experience managing small teams and working with external partners.
- Technical Knowledge: Solid understanding of mechanical and electrical maintenance processes, particularly in naval and maritime equipment.
- Monetization Experience: Experience in developing and executing service-related revenue strategies or business models is a plus.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Strong ability to collaborate with diverse teams (Product, Sales, Finance, etc.) and manage stakeholder expectations effectively.
- Languages: Fluent in English, both written and verbal; proficiency in any additional languages is a plus.
- Attributes: Proactive, adaptable, with a problem-solving mindset. Capable of working in a fast-paced, international environment. Strong communicator, able to establish and maintain relationships with both internal teams and external partners.
